Last week I had to go to Cairo to run some errands, I was born and raised in this city and only left 2 years ago. However, coming back here brings all the memories on why we left.
Cairo is one of the most polluted cities in the world, just the sight of Cairo from the highway gives you some insights on how big the problem is. It's also one of the most populated cities in the world, people are struggling to find a place to step a foot.
Living in a very populated and very polluted city makes people so aggressive, it's a constant state of fighting over a breath of air and a glimpse of sunshine; everyone is trying to find a place for himself.
I was struggling to live a decent life, and at some point I realised that no matter how much money I make I will never be happy in such place. I see those fancy residential compounds surrounded by high walls and I wonder; aren't they breathing the same polluted air in there? also aren't they suffering from the jammed streets and aggressive attitude every time they go out?
I left everything behind and moved, Hurghada was the first in our list and luckily it worked well for us. It wasn't easy but it was a fun adventure, and it still is.
Currently I make it my goal to try and encourage people who can leave Cairo to leave it, it's not easy to move out but it's worth the effort. I've succeeded with one friend so far who is going to move with his wife and 2 kids. Hoping to be able to convince more in the future.
Living in a good city makes a huge difference in our lives, so my advice to you is to move if you don't like where you live, it totally worth it.
