The Fear of missing out in web development

I've been experiencing the Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) for a long time, I believe many of us do since it's the age of social media where we're constantly reminded that other people are enjoying their life while we're sitting in here.

I live in a town full of tourists, and every single day I see unhappy faces that turn happy only during the couple of seconds while a selfie is being taken. Sometimes it's really hot to go outside, it doesn't make sense to have a happy face walking under a 45-degree sun, but they act happy anyway for Instagram.

Even though I know most of those happy faces are fake, I still get affected from time to time, specially when I'm sitting on my laptop trying to understand something or fix something and I look outside and see people taking selfies and walking around. I'm learning how to deal with it bit by bit, and I can feel it's getting better.

However, lately I started to experience FOMO with my career as well; I work as a web developer in Laravel, it's an awesome job in which I'm surrounded with a great community and brilliant co-workers. Checking twitter everyday I hear about this new JavaScript thing, or that new PHP library, or that new chatbots/AI/BI course. This gives me a little fear that by not checking all these new stuff I'm missing out a lot.

It's a constant pressure on me, and I can imagine how hard it can be on people newly joining the career. In my early days it wasn't that bad, things weren't moving that fast, but nowadays it's crazy.

I don't have answers, I only wrote this post to check with other developers if they are experiencing FOMO as well, also to let new comers know that it's crazy out there even for people who have been doing this for quite some time.
